Introducing the District Connectors

The District Connector Program is a new initiative launched by Shelby County’s Division of Community Services. Agents operating in each of the county’s 13 commission districts are working to better support citizens in need.

Department leaders and I recently met with Mayor David Parsons at City Hall and gave him a briefing on the work District 3 connector Glen Mullins will be performing from an office space generously provided by the City of Bartlett.

We’d like you to get involved with this program, too. Here’s one way to do that.

Bartlett and Lakeland citizens are encouraged to attend a Community Conversation on Tuesday, September 24, at Bartlett Senior Center. Dinner will be served at 5:15, with networking and a brief program to follow. To attend, please RSVP using this link.

Remembering Eliza Fletcher

In the days approaching the 2nd anniversary of Eliza Fletcher’s murder, the University of Memphis announced the establishment of Liza’s Light. This fund will support the construction of the Liza Wellford Fletcher Stadium. Learn more at lizaslight.org.

Happy birthday Lakeland Schools

It was an honor help celebrate Lakeland School System as the district began its milestone 10th year of operation. Congratulations to the entire LSS family!

Visiting the Traveling Wall

My thanks to Mayor Josh Roman for his invitation to visit the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall. We were joined by U.S. Rep. David Kustoff and Lakeland Commissioners Connie McCarter and Richard Gonzales.

Upcoming meetings

Sept 18 — Standing Committee Meetings, 8:30 a.m.
Sept 23 — Commission meeting, 3 p.m.

Puppy adoption update

Back to school season seemed like a good time for Halo to attend puppy school. The team at West Tennessee K9 takes great care of pets, and their humans.
